Biography

Cheyenne Sykes Originally from the Coast Salish region of Vancouver Island, Canada, she received a BFA in Theatre Design from the University of Alberta. After graduating she moved to New York City and began working in a range of projects across concerts, dance, installation, and theatre. She’s spent 4 summers at Williamstown Theatre Festival, which included working as Master Electrician and an Assistant Lighting Designer on the Nikos Stage. 

A collaboration that she is particularly proud of is the relationship with the performance artist, Miles Greenberg. After designing his first New York City performance in 2019, she subsequently designed two other pieces of his. Each piece was a 7+ hr long durational performance complete with full archival documentation. The archival footage of these performances have been shown in galleries in Europe. In 2023, Miles Greenberg was named in Forbes’ ’30 Under 30’ in Art & Style. In her dance work she is proud of her lighting design for two new works created by Sidra Bell, first developed at Marymount Manhattan College.

As an Assistant/Associate Designer Cheyenne has worked extensively on Off-Broadway and Regional productions. Designers she has worked with include: Ben Stanton, Isabella Byrd,  Eric Southern, Jen Schriever, David Weiner, Xavier Pierce, and Justin Townsend. She is gearing up for her third season at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as an Associate Lighting Designer working with Eric Southern and Marcus Doshi.

In the summer months she works as an Assistant on music festivals in the Site Lighting Department and is responsible for overseeing the implementation of multiple large installations. Since 2018 she has worked on Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, which had an attendance of 70,000 in 2024. Since 2021 she has worked on Outside Lands in San Francisco.
