COMMUNITY CONVERSATION
Join us immediately following the matinee performance on Saturday, February 28 for our Community Conversation with the director, cast, crew, and special guests Galina Bakhtiarova and Peter Filichia. The conversation will be hosted by faculty dramaturg Dr. Donald P. Gagnon and moderated by student dramaturgs Sedona Taylor and Michael Primorac. Admission to the Community Conversation is included with your ticket purchase to this performance.
Professor Galina Bakhtiarova holds her Bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish and Master’s in translation from Moscow Linguistic University, and Master’s and Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. At WestConn, she teaches classes in Spanish language, literature and culture and leads a study program to Spain each summer. Her dissertation and unpublished manuscript explore the complex relationship between Spanish, Catalan and Caribbean culture in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries through music, literature, and cinema.
As a theater reviewer, Peter Filichia was on staff of The Star-Ledger for 19 years, a columnist for TheaterWeek for nine, Playbill for three and Theatermania for eight. He’s written 11 books on theater, ranging from Let’s Put on a Musical to the upcoming Musical Makeovers: Suggestions for Broadway’s Flops – and Hits. His produced plays include God Shows Up; Larry, the Big-Time Broadway Producer and his one-person show A Personal History of the American Theater, in which he tells stories that deal with some of the 13,000 productions he’s seen. Filichia was a four-term president of the Drama Desk Awards and now serves on its current nominating committee as well for The Theatre World Awards, whose annual ceremony he writes and emcees. He’s been a National Endowment for the Arts assessor and critic-in-residence for The University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He is currently the musical theater awards judge for ASCAP and a Broadway Radio commentator.
